New Zealander and American

Becoming US citizens along with a thousand other people in east Los Angeles. I like to think I haven’t lost the hardworking-no fuss Kiwi attitude.

New Zealand Youth

School

I loved school: I like learning new things and I always had a project on the go.

About_Soccer.png

Soccer (not Rugby)

My friends got me into soccer. We would have sleepovers to watch the English FA Cup Final at 2 am NZ time every May. Later I would work on Fox Sports Soccer website.

My First Office!

Guiding started as a summer job in college, but it sustained me through my twenties, and also gave me experience setting up a new guided day-walk business.

About_Antelope.png

Explorer

Seasonal work enabled me to travel the world during the off season. I learned Spanish at the Universidad de Leon, walked the Inca trail and toured the Western US including this stop at the Antelope Canyon outside Page, AZ.

Interests

about_games.png

Playing Games

I grew up playing games, in remote mountain huts, on rainy Sunday afternoons and because we only had one TV. I love the challenge and I’m competitive, especially with my siblings.

Nature!

I’ve always been interested in the natural world: as a zoology major, a guide sharing knowledge of the alpine environment or a father taking his daughter to the aquarium.

Peak Bagging

Whether it’s 14ers in Colorado or 4,000 footers in the North East, I’m pushing my previous limits by taking on steeper or more wintery challenges. The most recent Peak was climbing the Grand Teton.

About_volunteer.png

Volunteer

When I first moved to America built a website for a wildlife rehabilitation center in Malibu, and more recently I produced 6 editions of my kids’ elementary school yearbook. I taught myself Html, CSS and to use inDesign.

Family

Lead Parent

Lately I’ve taken on the role of a running our household, Here we are after I finished the NYC Marathon, which is not the most family-friendly activity, but the point of parenting is to produce self-sufficient beings. So those 26 miles represent success on two fronts!

Jumping Back In

And now it is time to think about what I will do next. I would like to have a positive impact on my small corner of the world.

What is User Experience Design?

Designing for People

User Experiencer Design starts with empathy for the user of what is being produced. Through research we design the right thing and then we test to ensure we have designed it right. UX holds that a beautiful thing that doesn’t serve a need is not designed at all.

I’d love to work with you.
